The Community Activities Program is a program for individuals with disabilities who want to participate in safe, supervised activities after work or on an occasional weekend. It is designed to give individuals an opportunity to participate in activities in the community as well as focus on social skills, money skills and individuality. A variety of activities

incorporates a variety of preferences, personalities and physical tolerances. Some past activities of the program included volunteering at the Humane Society, attending and supporting local events (such as theater events, art shows, musical events at the Struthers Library Theater, the Warren County Fair and Music in the Park), Jamestown Jammers’ baseball games and local football games. There have been lunch and movie outings in both Jamestown, NY and Warren, bowling events, swimming parties, picnics, putt-putt golfing, dances, birthday and holiday celebrations, cruises on the Summer Wind Yacht around Chautauqua Lake, NY, and visits to the Planetarium and the Erie Zoo in Erie, PA. Activities have also included participation in art

shows in Warren, Erie, Dunkirk and Jamestown and participants have displayed items at the Warren County Fair. Many arts and crafts classes have been attended by participants – quilting, watercolor, photography, art, stamping, scrap booking, leather working, papermaking, making stepping stones for a garden, and making Christmas centerpieces with natural materials such as pine boughs and flowers. Healthy activities have been included as well such as joining the Jefferson DeFrees Gym and working out with the trainer, and attending weekly

yoga classes.

These are a few of the activities the program has offered and there will be many others in the future. Some activities are free, but for some events and classes fees must be charged. Participants are responsible for any fees associated with an activity. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions for any events you would like to see, please contact us. These activities are open to anyone who would like to participate whether you are an employee at the workshop, a participant in one of BEi’s programs, or an individual in the community who would like to join us.

If you are interested in attending one of our events or would like more information, call Tammy Rayborne at (814) 723-8431, Ext. 14.

Donations to offset costs for this program are always welcome.
